DJ Carey already ‘lands’ two sought after jobs just days into prison sentence

And reports are saying he has already been putting himself about in Mountjoy, landing at least one 'sought' after job.

According to the Irish Sun, instructions were given to hand the 55-year-old the job of cleaning and sweeping the C-base landing.

A source for the paper said: “The job as a cleaner is actually sought after in prison. It’s seen as a good role.

“Essentially, he will have to keep the landing he’s living on clean.

“He won’t get locked into cells for most breaks when most inmates are as part of the strict schedule.

“So a cleaner has a bit more freedom in terms of moving around. It keeps lads occupied and they find the day passes quicker.”

The Sun have also reported that the five-time All-Ireland winner is earning €1.80 per day in jail, and that this could rise to €2.54.

It is also expected that Carey, who turns 55 on November 11, will be moved to the safer Training Unit of the prison.

A source for the Mirror said: "I would expect DJ to be moved to the Training Unit as it is known in the coming days until all the fuss has died down.

"He is a high-profile prisoner who has no history of violence and he is in his fifty-fifth year. It would be too much of a risk putting him in the main part of the prison. The prison bosses have to ensure nothing happens to him."
