Dublin All-Ireland winner denies he’s aiming for a Dail seat despite joining Fianna Fail

He wouldn't be the first

The Dail hasn't had a high profile sportsman with the recent sheen of an All-Ireland medal in his trouser pocket join the ranks of Leinster House for a while now, but that might be about to change. St Vincents clubman Ger Brennan never struck us as the political type, but he's confirmed to the Irish Examiner that he's linked up with Fianna Fail in the northside of the city in recent weeks. The defender told the newspaper that although he has linked up with the party, he would find it hard to commit the time to campaigning for political office, such as a Dail seat

"The larger picture is that you never know what the future holds but certainly in the next few years it's not my focus. "If you were to follow me around in my life for a couple of days you'd see how busy it is in terms of work and sports. I'd rarely get ten minutes for myself so there wouldn't be a chance of me doing that."

The two-time All-Ireland winner has suffered with injury for the last 18 months, and is unlikely to feature for Dublin in their Leinster semi final with Kildare at the end of this month. It's believed that former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is a big admirer of the St Vincents captain, and is tipping him for a future career on the hustings on the northside. However while the player still retains his inter-county status, it is unlikely he will be kissing any babies in the near future-unless it's at a Dublin homecoming.
