GAA club victim of “disgusting” vandalism where defibrillator was tampered with

A GAA club in County Armagh has been the victim of a "disgusting anti-social act" of vandalism where their defibrillator was tampered with. St Peter’s GAC has been targeted by vandals at their home ground for the second time in 18 months and have taken to social media to raise awareness on the issue. In January last year, the club was broken into and the defibrillator was stolen, a very expensive and necessary piece of equipment that's needed to ensure the safety of players and community members. The latest attack was much more devious as the perpetrator this time stole the battery out of the new defibrillator and replaced it with a seven-year-old spent one. The Lurgan club released a statement saying that they were reviewing CCTV footage and have asked anyone that might have information to reach out. “Once again, our Club and the local Community have been the victim of misguided and disgusting anti-social behaviour,” the statement read.

“In January 2022, we reported our pitch-side defibrillator had been stolen and the cabinet housing it broken. Despite this set-back, the cabinet was repaired and defibrillator replaced. “More recently, some depraved, sick and cunning person(s), broke into the cabinet and replaced the new battery with a seven-year-old spent battery.

“CCTV is being reviewed and footage will be shared with the local PSNI. “Meanwhile if you know or hear anything that could lead to the culprit(s) of this deceitful and potentially life threatening act being identified, please reach out to any member of St Peter’s Club as a matter of urgency.
