Footage of a mass brawl that broke out between players and adults at an Under-15s minor hurling match has surfaced.
A Division One Championship game between Ballygunner and Na Risigh in Mount Sion, Co. Waterford had to be abandoned as a result of the brawl that broke out.
The video shows several players, mentors and supporters trading blows in an altercation that lasted for at least a few minutes.
One man can even be seen trying to use a hurl as a weapon but was pulled back by a club member.
A young player meanwhile was spotted on the floor holding his head in pain and lying on the grass.
Speaking to Extra.ie, the Gardaí have confirmed that an investigation is underway.
A spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating a reported assault at a sports ground in Waterford city on Monday evening, July 15, 2024.
"Investigations are ongoing."
Neither one of the two clubs have publicly commented as of yet, but Waterford GAA and Bord na nÓg are currently launching a separate investigation into the fight.
Waterford GAA said: "Waterford GAA and Bord na nÓg will not be in a position to comment on the game in question until the referees’ reports [have] been received and the process has been completed."
