Great news for sports fans as Dublin set for new 25,000 capacity stadium

It is believed a deal has been made to develop a site on Dublin's southside.

Dublin GAA look set to confirm the purchase of a 35-acre site in Templeogue, Dublin 6. The site contains the Spawell complex which functions as a social venue and includes a pitch and putt course, driving range, bar, all-weather soccer pitches, tennis and squash courts, gym and a variety of commercial buildings. The site has long been identified by Dublin GAA as a potential site for a new 25,000 capacity stadium. The back-to-back All-Ireland football champions have long since outgrown their current home at Parnell Park. The site has also been earmarked as the location for the county's centre of excellence. At present the footballers and hurlers train at a number of sites around the city, including DCU, with the gym facilities at the national development centre in Abbotstown also being used. https://twitter.com/SportsJOEdotie/status/717466833692016641 As reported in The Irish Examiner, the Dublin county board previously bid for the 35-acre site which was owned by NAMA but their offer was believed to be approximately €500,000 short of the winning bid of €9 million. However, as reported towards the end of 2016, negotiations had reopened between the county board and the managers of the complex, Davy Investment. An agreement is expected to be imminent. It is believed that Dublin want to be build a 25,000 capacity stadium on the site in addition to a number of full-size pitches and associated facilities The new facilities could also serve as Dublin's 'centre of excellence'. The proposed location looks set to benefit a number of clubs in the area with Ballyboden-St Enda's, St Jude's and Faughs all in close proximity.
