The only thing Canning was thinking about was how great it was to see Clare boss Davy Fitzgerald in the opposition dugout.
Fitzgerald underwent minor heart surgery this week and said "the most important thing in life is life," in his classy post-match interview.
Galway's Canning was similarly contemplative at full time as he offered RTÉ's Marty Morrissey some perspective.
"What was said about us in the last couple of weeks, we had to answer that, but there's more important things in life than sport," he said.
