Kieran Donaghy issues classy response to allegations of having his eye-gouged

The men in the midst of the controversy are staying quiet.

The Dublin team are enjoying a massive homecoming in the middle of the city tonight after Sunday's historic win over Kerry, while the 2014 champions are on their way back to the south-west. The manner of Dublin's 0-12 to 0-9 win over the Munster outfit however has been somewhat overshadowed by an ongoing controversy involving an allegation of eye gouging in an incident between Philly McMahon and Kieran Donaghy. Tv pictures appeared to show McMahon's hands very close to Donaghy's eye while the Sunday Game last night was heavily criticised for not focusing more on the incident. The Dublin corner back was asked about the incident today and many felt his answer was less than satisfactory

"It was a slippy day, the ball was on the ground to be challenged. I went down to challenge the ball and he's a big lad, trying to get around Kieran Donaghy is hard. "It's the heat of the battle. We'd like to say it's part of our culture, is humility,  and the same with the Kerry lads. What happens on the pitch stays on the pitch. We shook hands and that was the end of it.

However anyone unhappy with his comment may like to hear what Kieran Donaghy had to say when he was asked by RTE Sport this afternoon as Kerry made their way home. The Austin Stacks man has very much echoed McMahons comments and appears to be happy to let what ever happened on the field stay very much between the white lines

"What happens on the field stays on the field and that's the way I've always played it." "An All-Ireland final is a one-off game and whatever happens I'd leave it at that. I wouldn't be carrying anything into next year."
