Armagh boss gets heated after costly team tactics are questioned

After the match, Armagh boss Kieran McGeeney spoke to reporters, where he was questioned over his side's decisions to opt for fisted points instead of trying for a goal.

He said: "The thing about it is, we've had a lot of goal chances. If you take those goal chances, if we go for the points, we wouldn't have lost games over the last four or five years in the championship."

He was then asked whether he encourages these less risky tactics.

McGeeney responded: "No, we tell them to do whatever they want. The thing about it is whether you go for a goal or a point you should make sure of it.

"Does that answer the question."

After further questioning, he continued: "Ok I'm going to say it again. Is that ok so you can understand it? Have you got record on?

"I tell them that they take the decision, they're the good footballers."

The former All-Ireland winner also praised the quality of the game: "It was a great game of football, it always is between ourselves and Galway.

"It's up and down stuff, it always comes down to a point or two.

"I thought we played a lot of good football. It's always going to be a biased opinion but I thought we played most of the best football. Some of the goals went against us but that's the nature of the beast.

"I can't say I was disappointed tonight, other than the result. I thought a lot of young fellas, like Gareth Murphy in there again doing a good job, I thought Andrew Murnin and Callum O'Neill were outstanding in the middle of the field, just wasteful in front of goals, I thought we did well on the kickouts and stuff.

"A lot of good stuff, just very frustrating on the one or two things that cost us."
