This was the first time in the GAA's history that the Walsh Cup would be decided by such a shoot-out and followed on from a similar tie-breaker in the Meath and Longford football game last weekend.
Kilkenny raced into a 2-0 lead during the shootout, with efforts being pinged from 65 metres out, but Conor MacDonald made a good connection to keep Wexford in the hunt.
