Mayo great slams ‘disrespectful’ players in Cavan loss

He believes the players "have to take responsibility" for the defeat.

Mayo icon, Lee Keegan, is the latest person to give his thoughts on the chaos surrounding Mayo. Keegan feels that they are no longer genuine All-Ireland contenders, following not just the defeat to Cavan, but also the loss to Galway in that Connacht final.

The former Mayo wing-back feels a big part of what led to the Westerners' demise against Cavan was the players attitude towards Sunday's opponents.

Keegan said: "Their body language was poor throughout the Cavan game. I heard Martin Carney on Mid-West Radio was fuming throughout the game about a lack of intensity, a bad sign.

"Frankly, they didn't respect Cavan enough."

He added: "They didn't lay a glove on them for much of the 70 minutes."

The Mayo great also thinks that all the pressure from this recent fallout shouldn't just fall on the Mayo boss' shoulders.

He said: "The management are taking a lot of heat for Sunday's performance, although they're not alone in the dock.

"People are calling for Kevin McStay to walk but the players also have to take responsibility here. The energy they brought to the contest wasn't acceptable."
