Paul Galvin’s honest take on difference between Clare and Tipp and why Kerry loved beating Tipp

If anyone knows, Paul Galvin probably knows better.

The Kerry legend has seen it all. He's felt it all and he's heard it all and he knows when a team can back up their talk. And when they can't. The iconic number 10 was guest on SportsJOE's GAA Hour football podcast on Monday and he provided some fascinating insights on everything from Michael Murphy to the Kerry dressing room to his idea for a new championship structure to guys who just won't stop soloing the bloody ball. https://twitter.com/SportsJOEdotie/status/760176572242485248 When he spoke about Clare and Tipp though, it was even more intriguing. He's played them both many times and he's been involved in building up for those provincial rivalries and remembers the feelings. He doesn't ever really remember worrying too much about the Banner county - not like they might have done with Tipp.

"We love beating Tipp because we felt that they always needed to be beaten - keep them down there. Honest to God," Galvin told The GAA Hour.  "They're different to Clare. Clare will come along and there will be a bit of bravado about Clare but there wouldn't be much behind it you felt. You always felt that it was a bit false with Clare. "Now this Clare team are good and their coach has done well but I'm talking about in the past. We'd have said: Clare, they'll be roaring and shouting but there won't be much really behind it all. "Whereas Tipp would put it up to you, but they wouldn't be afraid of the ball either. They play a bit of ball too. We always liked beating them because we felt it was important to beat them."
