Roscommon club player forgets shorts… has to train in his underwear

Sure isn't that what the GAA is all about?

• The continuing fixture condensing that began at the start of the year with players having to play club All-Ireland semi-finals and Sigerson games at the same time

There are still some people out there who would die for the cause and others who would play in their boxers for the cause. As we approach Gaelic Sunday, a celebration of defiance and a mark of unity, when the GAA world stood tall and stood together during British occupation, that boldness, the fearlessness and the pure love of Gaelic games has passed down through the generations but, thankfully, to show it these days doesn't have to be as dangerous. St. Ronan's are right in the promotion reckoning this year from Division Four of the Roscommon Senior Football League. After seven games, they've won five and sit in second place in the table and they've won both of their Junior A championship games to date as well. Things are going well so far and it's no real wonder when you see the commitment of some of the players. On Tuesday night, training went ahead as usual. Everything was normal, players were knocking around beforehand and the show was going on as always. It just had a little bit of a different look to it. Players train in rain, hail, sleet and snow. They find pockets of land to get another session under the belt. They take pictures in the gym to prove they're doing extra. And, even when they don't have the gear, they go to training anyway. It's very hard to believe though that no-one in the squad was able to help him out with a spare pair of shorts.
