It is the second time in his career that Finn has ruptured his ACL. (Credit: Sportsfile)[/caption]
A four-time All Star hurler, the loss of Finn, who is now 27 years old, will be a major blow to John Kiely's side's quest for four consecutive Liam McCarthy Cups.
Speaking on Tuesday evening, Limerick manager Kiely said that initial indications suggested that Finn's injuries were "not too bad" but that they would not know for certain until the results of his scan had been received.
Unfortunately for both Finn and Kiely, the scan confirmed the worst possible news, that the defender had torn his cruciate ligament for the second time in his career.
In a brief statement released this evening, the Limerick senior hurling management team said confirmed that "Seán Finn suffered an ACL injury on Saturday evening last that will rule him out for the remainder of the season".

It followed with "We wish Seán the very best in his recovery, and assure him our fullest support and expertise on that journey".
The injury occurred towards the end of the first half against Clare, as Finn chased after opposition forward Peter Duggan. But as Duggan swerved and shot for goal, Finn crumpled to heap on the turf, clutching his left knee.
Despite the personal setback, the Limerick defender will be buoyed by the fact that he came back from the same injury seven years ago in 2016 during his time at UL, on that occasion returning from the lay-off and claiming a second All-Ireland U-21 medal.
