Kilcar were back in the Donegal championship final last year and it isn't any wonder with how well-drilled and how bloody slick they were. Inspired by 2-3 from the craft and guile of Ryan McHugh, Barry Doherty's men are in the decider once more intent on avenging last year's defeat. And they got there with an almighty blitz of a poor St. Michael's outfit who might well have saw the threat coming but simply couldn't do anything to stop it. Speed kills. The McHughs kill. https://twitter.com/eirSport/status/911664155106693120 Whilst it was a quieter night for captain Paddy McBrearty who hit two from frees after picking up man of the match in the quarter-final, it was a victory for the system as Kilcar swatted aside the threat of Colm McFadden, Martin McElhinney and Christy Toye and co to dismantle St. Michael's with 15 points to spare. The defensive set-up was that impressive in fact that, in injury time of the game, a turnover ball and counter-attack from Kilcar's own 45' resulted in a one-on-one. Kilcare midfielder intercepted the ball and strode the length of the field, bearing down on Donegal stopper Mark Anthony McGinley the whole time. He takes off from his own half when everyone from St. Michael's had been committed to attack. He legs it right down the centre of the field with not one person there to put him under pressure until the goalkeeper narrows the options and the Kilcar man blazes over. It was like a basketball fast-break dunk. Everyone back defending the half-court, everyone on the opposition pushed up in attack. One misplaced pass and the thing goes to pot.
