Legendary former footballer and manager Kevin Keegan told fans he is dealing with stage four cancer during an appearance in Newcastle this weekend, as reported by The Mail.
The update comes after earlier news in January that the 75-year-old was to be treated after a cancer diagnosis.
Keegan appeared at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle over the past weekend, making a rare public appearance in which he shared further details of his diagnosis, before later reminiscing over his career.
Keegan would go on to tell supporters that he has stage four cancer, the most advanced form of the disease.
Per The Mail, Keegan is reported to have said: "They said we have a top doctor with this new way of fighting what you have got.
"Which is stage four cancer.
"He was a Liverpool supporter so I went to meet him. I knew I wouldn’t be walking alone, if you know what I mean."
Speaking later as part of the event, the 75-year-old also discussed his desire to return to Newcastle United's St James' Park at some point soon, to finally say goodbye to supporters.
"I want to say goodbye. I didn’t get the chance when I left the club last time," he is said to have told the crowd.
Kevin Keegan is one of the greatest British footballers in the history of the game, winning two Ballon d'Or awards, before later taking up work as Newcastle United manager after retirement.
He came close to winning the Premier League with the Magpies during an initial spell during the 1990s, before later returning to the dugout in 2008.
