Mark Webster beaten by 63-year-old Paul Lim in World Darts Championship shocker

Webster crashes out in the first round.

There was tremendous drama in the first round of the PDC World Darts Championship as 63-year-old Paul Lim beat Mark Webster, edging the former BDO world champion in a five-set thriller. Lim, who first competed in the tournament in 1982, reached the second round for the first time since 2001 after an absorbing contest at Alexandra Palace on Monday night. The 'Singapore Slinger' recovered after losing the first set to beat the number 30 seed, hitting a double-top in the fifth set to seal it. Following his victory and an incredible evening, Lim was understandably humbled.

“I know the PDC World Championship is the cream of all darts tournaments and to be part of it really is an honour. To play well with the crowd like that is a different story, I think the way the crowd were really played a part in me winning. “I had to dig deep. It’s tough though, I’m running out of stamina.”
