The undefeated fighter was speaking at a media scrum after his press conference with Conor McGregor on Wednesday night and responded to a claim that he was the best power puncher of all time.
"The body breaks down, I was a heavy hitter for many years," he told reporters.
"My body broke down probably around the Arturo Gatti fight, that was my last hurrah but I still found a way to win.
"They say I’m running, they say I don’t hit hard but I continue to win and I continue to beat the best boxers all day."
Mayweather fought Canadian boxer Gatti back in 2005 and fought 15 times after the bout.
Of the 15 fights, there were only three stoppages with one of those coming from a controversial knockout of Victor Ortiz.
Come 26 August fans can expect that not much will change from Mayweather and that he'll be branding his defensive style of boxing once more.
