Tyson Fury reveals when Deontay Wilder rematch is likely to happen

The Gypsy King says the rematch 'has to happen'.

Tyson Fury has said a rematch between him and Deontay Wilder 'has to happen'. "Deontay Wilder cannot run from Tyson Fury forever. The fight has to happen," he told ESPN. The pair faced off in Los Angeles in December and while Fury was knocked down twice, the fight was judged to be a draw. Fury felt robbed after the fight and wants another crack at taking Wilder's WBC heavyweight title. The Manchester born boxer has also said he believes it will happen in the spring months of next year.

"This rematch has got to happen, but it won't be in May, June, July or August. This fight, I'm being told, is likely to happen in March or April next year."

There were rumours of an immediate rematch between the two heavyweights, but it never came to fruition as contract talks fell through. Fury explained that a contract Wilder had already signed prevented the rematch from going ahead. We were very close to a rematch. We had contracts, they had contracts, we were trying to agree terms..

"All of a sudden I had a massive deal from ESPN and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. That would've been in May I believe. "Deontay Wilder apparently signed a three-fight deal before I signed an ESPN deal. "He signed a deal to fight Dominic Breazeale, Luis Ortiz and Adam Kownacki, so this was all done even before I put pen to paper.”
