Galway boxer Peter McDonagh receives eight-month ban for weigh-in scuffle

The punishment is in for Peter McDonagh following his weigh-in altercation with Shayne Singleton.

The two pugilists exchanged heated words at the pre-fight press conference with McDonagh claiming that Singleton lacked heart in the later rounds. Singleton fired back by calling him a journeyman and questioning his athletic ability. They had to be separated by security during their media day staredown as they continued to mouth at each other. The 40-year-old has gone unbeaten in his last 11 bouts since losing to Bradley Skeete in 2013. His subsequent win that kicked off his impressive run against Liam Griffiths ended a six-fight skid. However, with this ban in place, he will be unable to step into a British ring until the summer.
