Former world champion sums up Katie Taylor perfectly in bold tweet

Former World champion Carl Frampton summed up Katie Taylor's decision to fight Chantelle Cameron perfectly in a bold tweet. Taylor was due to fight Amanda Serrano in an exciting rematch and better still, the fight was set to take place in Ireland for the first time in her career. However, an injury to Serrano meant that their bout had to be postponed and the Bray brawler had to find a new opponent for May 20th. The sheer fact that this fight was going to be a homecoming meant that Taylor could have fought pretty much anyone and it would have been a blockbuster. That isn't her style though, and instead she challenged Cameron, who is the unified champion in the weight division above her. Such bravery and respect for the sport is something that we don't get to see too often, particularly in the men's game. You only have to look at the hoops that Tyson Fury is making Oleksandr Usyk jump through just to get their fight announced. Frampton took to Twitter to express his admiration for the fighters.

In typical Taylor-fashion, the unified champ was as transparent as you can be when explaining her decision to pick Cameron as her next opponent.

"Once Serrano pulled out this was the natural fight to make,” said Taylor. “It's two undefeated, reigning Undisputed World champions going up against each other and I believe that's the first time that's ever happened in the modern era of the sport.

“People have been talking about this fight for a long time now so I'm delighted it's happening and I'm looking forward to becoming a two-weight Undisputed Champion in Dublin on May 20." Cameron is equally thrilled, and claims that she is ready for the challenge ahead.

“It feels surreal that the fight is actually happening. It feels like my whole professional career has been based around this fight and I never imagined it would actually happen for one reason or another.

“I’m no stranger to boxing away from home now and to be going into Katie’s backyard for her homecoming is massive. I’m glad to be a part of history again like I was in Abu Dhabi. "I know what I will be up against and that I am the underdog but I relish that. The fight will be electric. We both are experienced, we are both game and we are both are coming to win."
