Michael Conlan will fight British opponent on Warrington vs. Frampton undercard

Michael Conlan is looking forward to his first professional fight against British opposition.

Conlan confirmed that he would be closing out 2018 with a bout on the undercard of the IBF featherweight title fight between Josh Warrington and Carl Frampton next month. The Belfast boxer was not able to name his opponent but in an interview with IFL TV, Conlan did announce that he would be sharing the ring with a domestic fighter in Manchester on the BT Sport card. "I’ll finish this year with a win in December and move to 10-0," Conlan said. Irish-Boxing.com report that Conlan's next outing will see him fight for his first title and step up to 10 rounds from eight as Top Rank look to position him for a world championship. Conlan, who will turn 27 before he next takes to the ring, has recently revealed that he is also targeting a rematch against Vladimir Nikitin in the professional arena. Nikitin claimed a hugely controversial win over Conlan in the 2016 Rio Olympics, prompting the Irish fighter to let fly with his infamous outburst against AIBA before he was signed to a professional contract by Bob Arum. But Conlan will have to wait until 2019 at the very earliest before he gets the chance to exact revenge against his Top Rank stablemate.
