There has been a significant update on the status of Ireland's upcoming Nations League game against Israel in October.
While it is currently scheduled to be held at the Aviva Stadium, it was reported yesterday that the FAI were considering moving the game outside of Dublin, due to expected protests over Israel's military campaign in Palestine.
It has now been revealed that the FAI are strongly considering moving the game to a neutral venue outside of Ireland, for a behind-closed-doors game.
Naturally, Ireland boss Heimir Hallgrimsson would not be to pleased if this were to occur, as it means Ireland would be giving up home advantage.
The Icelander said: “If I think from a footballing perspective, I am here to try to win games. We are representing the nation on the pitch, we are trying to win the game.
“Not playing in the Aviva would of course be difficult for us because we have been really good here, we have had such fantastic support here.
“We would always minimise our chances of winning it if we played in a neutral venue or somewhere else.”
A member Irish Palestine for Sport added: “You cannot hide a genocide.
“Under no circumstances should the FAI consider locking its own fans out of attending an Ireland match instead of asking Israel to answer for breaking the rules of the game.”
