Cork host Limerick in tomorrow's Munster SHC final at Pairc Uí Chaoimh, in what is a repeat of last year's title decider, which was won by the Rebels on penalties.
It was understood that captain Darragh Fitzgibbon would be unavailable for the tie, after recently undergoing surgery for appendicitis.
However, manager Ben O'Connor has named the player on his stand-by list for the game.
Tipperary legend, John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer, believes that this move from O'Connor strongly suggests that he might be promoted to the 26-man match-day squad.
Speaking on GAA+, O'Dwyer said: "He's being really cute as well, he came out during the week and said that Darragh Fitzgibbon is still two weeks away, but yet he's on the stand-by list.
"Is he on the stand-by list, because the players on the lis can take part in the warm-up? Is he there because he's the captain and he just wants him to be there and togged out?
"But I don't think so, if you're injured, you're injured. So is he on the stand-by list and he could potentially come in to that 26? We won't find out until Sunday."
