Access to GAA clips is about to get so much better and so much quicker

The online world is impatient. When you're taking for granted a tool that depends on signal transmissions from a modem, from a dish, from a bloody satellite in space, you'll take anything for granted really. When something happens now, we don't want the information or the description or the opinion. We want the actual footage and we'll judge for ourselves. More than that, we want it right now, at the push of a button. Copyright infringements are an every-minute occurrence these days and it's getting harder and harder to monitor with so many avenues for downloading and uploading and so many different ways to host the content. And, still, the GAA world is still catching up with many aspects of media. Something as simple as stats are hard to come by. Archives might as well be non-existent. Something as simple as appearance or scoring stats are inconclusive and they probably couldn't be further from exhaustive. Those basic pieces of information are the tip of the iceberg for other sports but work is still required for the GAA to get up to speed. Digital rights For the 2017 championship, however, the GAA have retained the rights to digital content and they will seed out footage as they see necessary. This means that fans will have full access to clips on GAA.ie and they will then be posted on social media channels at later times. The GAA are going live with their match clip offering this coming weekend, May 20/21.

"We will use GAA.ie as the primary hub for the video packages and most likely distribute via our social channels post-match day/later in the week," a spokesperson confirmed. "We have a mixture of planned content across in-game, weekend round-ups, archive and other media events so hopefully plenty for the GAA fan to get stuck into!"

The GAA's website is already equipped with GAA TV in preparation for the start of the championship. This is where the clips will be housed during live events but it will also include interviews and classic moments. So when something big happens, the GAA themselves will be reacting to get it out so you won't have to worry about missing any bit of the action again.

"What we are looking to develop with our video assets comes off the back of an obvious growth shift in live sport consumption," said a spokesman. "More and more people are turning to their mobile devices to either catch-up or augment their live viewing experience and GAA fans are no different.

"The GAA has a wealth of short form video content that will be made available worldwide on GAA.ie throughout this year's Championship and beyond including in-game, archive, weekly round-ups and other bespoke productions."
