Cuala won their first-ever Ireland Dublin Senior Football Championship title, dethroning reigning champions Kilmacud Crokes in a thrilling final on Sunday afternoon at Parnell Park.
The victory ended Crokes’ pursuit of a fourth consecutive crown and saw the Dalkey club rise to the top in a hard-fought contest.
The Dalkey club also hired a special DART for the occasion. The club chartered a DART to bring club supporters from Dalkey to Killester to watch the historic final at Parnell Park on Dublin's northside.
Among the supporters in attendance was RTÉ sports broadcaster Des Cahill, who previously served as Chairman of Cuala.
“It was a big day for us, it’s a big week for us now. I can’t give you a complete report on the celebrations because they’re certainly not over,” Cahill told The Irish Independent.
In the game itself, Kilmaud Crokes were trailing by five points at half-time, but mounted a comeback in the second half thanks to a goal from Luke Ward.
Dublin star and Cuala stalwart Con O'Callaghan then received a red card in the second half. Yet, his team held on to claim victory.
Cuala will now face a Leinster Championship quarter-final on November 9th.
