Dublin GAA on the brink of signing a huge new jersey deal

As if Dublin GAA needed another boost.

The football powerhouse have won three of the last five All-Irelands and have already started this year with two victories in the Allianz League. It was revealed last week that the €1.34million the county received in development funding from the GAA was more than the other 31 counties combined and now it looks like they are going to pocket another six-figure sum by signing a new kit deal ahead of the Championship. Dublin county board are to debate a potential new deal on Monday night and the Irish Sun are reporting that the Dubs are poised to turn their back on O'Neills in favour of a continental manufacturer. This raises the enticing possibility of Jim Gavin's men turning out in Puma or Adidas gear this summer, with the modern, super-fit GAA intercounty star having no reason to fear the skin tight Puma shirts. Other counties, including Kerry back in the 1990s, have run run into conflict with Croke Park when they tried to do deals with foreign manufacturers, but Dublin are confident any contract would be protected under EU legislation. Kerry only wore Adidas jerseys for one year, 1998, as it was believed the GAA increased significantly the price of licensing for the German sportswear giant. Those Kerry jerseys are now gold dust among fans and it looks like Dublin could be about to don another instant cult classic.
