Having come on as a sub in the game, Jarly Óg ran up the Hogan Stand steps on the final whistle of the game to hug his father who was reduced to tears.
The president of the GAA then gave a powerful speech on the steps of the Hogan Stand before presenting the cup to Armagh's captain Aidan Forker.
"Today belongs to Ard Mhaca,' Burns said to loud roars from the Armagh faithful.
"Today belongs to a man who lifted the cup here in 2002 and stuck with this team for the last ten years and is now manager, Kieran McGeeney, Geezer," he added.
"To a man from Maghery who has struggled with this team for the last thirteen seasons.
"What an example he is. There's his wife, there's his child, there's his child, they've made the same sacrifices he has. And now, it gives me great pleasure to present the Sam Maguire Cup to the captain of Armagh, Aidan Forker."
The win sees Kieran McGeeney join an illustrious club of individuals who have won an All-Ireland title as a player and a manager. The sides were level at half-time but Aaron McKay scored a crucial goal for Armagh in the 48th minute of the game and from there they kicked onto win.
Galway almost levelled the game up in injury time but Dylan McHugh's effort cannoned off the post and Armagh held on. Cein D'Arcy and Cillian McDaid had dragged Galway back into the game after Oisin O'Neill put Armagh three up but the Orchard county kept them at bay in injury time to win their second ever All-Ireland.
