Davy Fitzgerald just as passionate on Ireland’s Fittest Family as on a sideline in June

When Davy Fitzgerald is in, he's in.

The Clare man doesn't do half-measures and with Wexford's Walsh Cup campaign still around the corner, it's been in Ireland's Fittest Family that he's kept his competitive juices flowing over the last few weeks. And it's fair to say he's well warmed up for the hurling at this stage. The final of Ireland's Fittest Family was broadcast live on RTÉ One on Sunday evening with the Coneys of Tyrone battling it out against the McDonalds of Laois. The Coneys were coached by former Cork camogie star Anna Geary while the McDonalds borrowed their mentor off the Wexford hurlers for a few weeks. Game on. Both Geary and Fitzgerald were in a familiar old stomping ground for the final, with the deciding challenges taking place in Jones' road and in Davy's passion throughout, the home of the GAA was in for a few familiar sights. With Fitzgerald one of the programme's creators, it's no surprise that he takes it seriously and as the tension and the stakes rose towards a grandstand finish, Davy was getting more and more into it, more and more animated. His reaction to the realisation that his team had been beaten by a whisker on the final challenge was like what you'd see in the height of the summer when a Wexford man isn't given a free. No holding back.
