Laois injury crisis has Eamonn Kelly seeking divine intervention

After qualifying for the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship, Eamonn Kelly’s Laois side have a number of injuries heading into their opener against Wexford on Sunday week.

In the round robin decider against Kerry, Laois sustained a number of injuries including those to Ryan Mullaney, Paddy Whelan and Willie Dunphy.

And Kelly, sweating over having his players fit, has gone for a more traditional approach in hoping his players will be back.

“It's Lourdes water and rosary beads we'll need,” he told the Leinster Express.

“We'll have to assess them as we are going along. We really don't know yet, but Willie (Dunphy) should be back.”

Laois will try to overcome a rejuvenated Wexford side that topped division 1B under the management of Davy Fitzgerald.

When the two sides met at the end of March Laois gave The Yellowbellies a scare as they eventually lost out by four points.

“It's unfortunate because they remember it too, so they're not going to be taking us for granted.

“We gave it a good go that day, but we'll get out own house in order and get as many players as we can back on the field over the next two weeks, we'll see how it goes.”

The two sides will meet on 28 May in O’Moore Park.
