Odds slashed on Mayo winning 2026 All-Ireland as Andy Moran is appointed

Mayo exited the 2025 All-Ireland at the group stage

Moran will replace Kevin McStay, whose three years in charge culminated in the Green and Red exiting this year’s All-Ireland championship at the group stage.

Moran will be joined by former Mayo player Colm Boyle and Paddy Tally. Tally recently managed Derry and was part of the Kerry backroom staff.

Former Sligo manager Tony McEntee was also reportedly under consideration.

Mayo are now 10/1 with most bookies to win the All-Ireland crown in 2026, having been as long as 25/1 when they exited the All-Ireland in June, and 20/1 earlier this week. 

All-Ireland winners Kerry are favourites for the 2026 crown at 7/4, followed by beaten finalists Donegal at 6/1. Mayo are amongst a group of teams around the 10/1 mark, including Tyrone, Galway, Armagh, Dublin and Derry. 

On the appointment of Moran, Mayo said in a statement: “Andy Moran and his backroom team bring a wealth of experience from both playing and coaching at the highest levels of inter-county football. 

“Moran has gained management and coaching experience with both Monaghan and Leitrim in recent years. 

“Their combined knowledge, leadership and proven track records will be invaluable in driving the continued development and success of Mayo football.

"Moran won eight Connacht GAA senior football medals with Mayo and played in six All-Ireland Senior Football Finals. He represented Mayo GAA 150 times between league and championship. Andy won two All-Star Awards and was named the GAA Footballer of the Year in 2017. 

"Moran also won three Sigerson titles with IT Sligo, 2 Allianz National Football League titles with Mayo and 2 Mayo GAA Senior Football titles with his club Ballaghaderreen."
