WATCH: Conor McGregor confirms what everyone suspected regarding Floyd Mayweather super fight

Conor McGregor's recent comments should put an end to all the Floyd Mayweather superfight talk... for now, at least.

The combat sports world went a bit mad (well madder than usual) recently when rumours began circulating that some sort of circus-act MMA/boxing crossover bout between McGregor and Mayweather was in the works. Few people with their head screwed on took the reports seriously although, the Notorious has been doing his best to ensure that the story gathered momentum. https://twitter.com/TheNotoriousMMA/status/729257923529060352?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw During his interview on ESPN's SportCenter which aired on Sunday, McGregor confirmed that it was nothing more than rumours and that no serious talks between either fighters' camps took place.

"I hear the boy talking. It was him (Mayweather) that leaked the rumour. (It said) he gets $100m, I get $7m - that's a pay-cut to me. I don't take pay-cuts. I thought boxing was where the money was at."

However, although he knew it was only a rumour, McGregor still took his completely fictional reported purse for the fight as a personal insult against him. In his eyes, he's be taking a pay-cut if he accept the fight under those terms.

"$7m is absolutely laughable. He's talking $100m, I'm talking $100m. I'm 27 years of age and I'm just about half way through a $100m contract. At 27 years of age Floyd Mayweather was on Oscar De La Hoya's undercard. So, compare that."

He claimed that he wouldn't mind slugging it out against the prized pugilist in a boxing bout and even went as far to say that he's the opponent Mayweather needs if he wishes to come out of retirement.

"He's getting old now. I have the size, I have the reach, I have the height, I have the youth." "He needs me, I don't need him. That's the truth of it. Who else can he fight? He fights someone else in the boxing round and all of a sudden the pay goes from $100m to $15m. So, he needs me."

If Mayweather wants the fight to happen, McGregor has a simple message for him.

"If he wants to talk, we can talk, but it's me who's in control here."
